QRMP

Financial & Accounting Dictionary

QRMP stands for Quarterly Return Monthly Payment. It is a GST compliance scheme introduced by the Government of India to reduce the filing burden on small taxpayers. Under this scheme, eligible registered taxpayers file their GST returns once every quarter but continue to pay their tax dues every month.

Who Is Eligible?

The QRMP scheme is available to GST-registered taxpayers whose aggregate annual turnover (AATO) is up to ₹5 crore in the preceding financial year. Taxpayers can opt in or out of the scheme at the beginning of each quarter.

Taxpayers whose turnover exceeds ₹5 crore during a financial year become ineligible and must switch to monthly filing.

How Does It Work?

Under QRMP, a taxpayer's compliance calendar looks like this:

MonthAction Required
Month 1 of quarterPay tax via PMT-06 challan
Month 2 of quarterPay tax via PMT-06 challan
Month 3 of quarterFile GSTR-1 (IFF optional) + GSTR-3B

Monthly Tax Payment (PMT-06)

For the first two months of each quarter, taxpayers pay tax using Form PMT-06. There are two methods to calculate the monthly payment:

  • Fixed Sum Method (FSM): Pay 35% of the tax paid in the last quarter's GSTR-3B (for quarterly filers) or the previous month's GSTR-3B (for those who switched from monthly).
  • Self-Assessment Method: Calculate actual tax liability for the month based on inward and outward supplies and pay accordingly.

Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF)

QRMP taxpayers can use the Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) in the first two months of a quarter to upload select outward supply invoices (B2B). This allows their recipients to claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) without waiting until the end of the quarter. IFF is optional and cannot exceed ₹50 lakh per month.

Returns Filed Under QRMP

  • GSTR-1: Filed once per quarter (with optional IFF for months 1 and 2)
  • GSTR-3B: Filed once per quarter as a summary return

Key Benefits

  • Reduces the number of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filings from 24 per year to 8 per year
  • Simplifies compliance for small businesses and freelancers
  • IFF ensures recipients can still claim ITC in a timely manner
  • Flexible payment method (fixed sum or self-assessment)

How to Opt In

Taxpayers can opt into or out of the QRMP scheme on the GST portal (www.gst.gov.in) under the Services > Returns > Opt-in for Quarterly Return section. The option must be exercised before the last date of the first month of the quarter.

QRMP is separate from the QRMP Scheme page, which covers the broader policy framework. This page explains the scheme in its operational context.
